Expansion of Residency Positions PDF Print

It was announced today, November 18th 2005, that starting in July 2006 the number of IMG residencies has been expanded to 18. Twelve of these will be for family medicine and six for specialties.

The same criteria for applicants as before, however now all applicants with EE, Part 1 and TOEFL will get an OSCE exam. The specialties will include internal medicine, psychiatry, general surgery, anesthesia, Obs/Gyn, pediatrics.

There is also the introduction of an interview and an orientation for screened candidates after a 12 week clinical evaluation. Everyone will be ranked in the process. Applicants can choose what specialty to apply to. Because this is so late in being announced it does not look like they will be complete the process prior to CaRMs in the spring. In subsequent years the OSCE will be in September and the clinical evaluation in October, which leaves enough time for those chosen to know prior to CaRMs.

Please refer to St. Paul’s for application and detailed information.
